George & Kathy’s bmw rt website

Welcome to our new and hopefully improved Website, all to do with our life on our bikes. You will have to bear with us as we switch over to Mac.

We try to get out on our bike as often when we can, we love travelling all over Europe, and even took our R1100RT to the USA West Coast in 2000.

Our most recent trip was to Greece and the island of Zante, to our Kerry’s, wedding. Awesome trip, just under 3,000 miles, great weather, good roads, and good fun.

We told you it was coming months ago. RT1200 with the twin cam motor, and all the disbelievers, are now proved wrong!!  £11,775, basic on the road price. Like the low seated version, 750mm, that is low.

Having had a good look around, we like:

Adjustable headlamp knob, why did they not carry it straight over from the R1150RT, to the first R1200RT ? ? ?

The roundel in the centre yolk.

The better view in the mirrors.

The extra low down torque of the motor

Not too sure their reason for the exhaust flap was to give the bike a better sound? Really? A better sound, so instead of a slight weight loss, we get another motor, that needs controlling, a servo, exhaust valve flap and cable assembly. Surely it is to do with the tuning of the motor?

As for the fluid reservoirs, please don’t ask, they look so cheap and nasty, because they are so cheap and nasty. Had to laugh about a dealer in the US, when they uncrated the bike and started it up, they quickly shut it down as they thought the reservoirs were loose, they were vibrating so much.......

I thought they may have offered HID units in the headlamps, as there has to be something that is causing all these headlamp bulbs to blow, is it the vibration? Nearly every other R1200RT, I see on the road has a lamp out.

Lets hope they have tried to address a few corrosion and paint issues too. I have noticed the paint on my 2nd timing cover bubbling up again, and have we had many more final drive failures? and fuel pump controllers ?

News: July 2010....

Weather has been really hot lately. We had a hot day yesterday, taking the A614 from Nottingham all the way to Bridlington, just hooning along with open face lids on, it was lovely. Then west through the National Park to Thirsk, we picked up two Round Britain Rally clues, even got pestered by a jobsworthy parking attendant whilw Kathy took the picture, for all of 1 minute on his car park, YOU TWAT, GUESS WE SHOULD HAVE TRIED HARDER AT SCHOOL

I see that more details of the new K1600 have popped up, awesome piece of kit, Ultra trick headlamp, and angel eyes.

We are thinking of dad, number 98,  as usual, more so now, as it has been 10 years since he passed on and left us for that big cigar shop in the sky, Here’s to you dad.

I have shifted quite a few temp units for the R1150RT lately, a couple to the US, one to Australia, and one to New Zealand. These are still available, only for the R1150RT WITHOUT the radio fitted, as the display fits in the blanked off window.

We have recently been away with Jak our dog for a break on Exmoor, it was fabulous

We stopped at West Withy Farm, and we were so well looked after by Ian & Lorena. Stable cottage was lovely and spacious, warm and welcoming. If you are going down there, check it out.
